Ole Hasselbalch obtained his master's degree in law at the University of Copenhagen 1969; and worked as lawyer and research director for the Danish Employers' Confederation while also teaching labour law at the CopenhagenUniversity. In 1985 he was appointed professor of Private and Commercial Law at Aarhus School of Business. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Aarhus (Denmark) 1977 and his doctorate at the University of Stockholm (Sweden) in 1980 where he was appointed reader (docent) in 1981. In 2000 he was conferred the title of honorary professor at The International Institute of Economics and Law (Russia). He has written numerous books and articles on i.a. Labour Law, Social Security Law, Law on Non-Profit-Making Associations, Law on Media, Constitutional Law, Human Rights.
